This track will explore the effectiveness of community-based development, with a special emphasis on the work of midwives, community health promoters, and other local actors. Presentations will examine the experiences of selected model programs, explore the integration between local groups and regional or international supporters, and examine the impact of programs on target communities across a range of thematic areas, including nutrition and health, ecology, and infrastructure ... read more »

Networks, Technology, and Development

This track will focus on recent experiences in networking and interorganizational collaboration. In addition to a special focus on recent disaster relief activities in the wake of Tropical Storm Agatha, the track will also address other themes, such as health care coordination and patient referral mechanisms, NGO portals and registries, and private-public collaborations.

Identity, Culture, and Education

This track will focus specifically on an analysis of the interaction between Maya identity and development work. In particular, presentations will explore how discourses of Maya cosmovision, language revitalization, bilingual education, and multiculturalism influence the impact and success of selected programs.
